Vibracore Sediment Sampling

Athena Technologies, Inc. has been providing sediment sampling services since 1987.  These activities have been performed in a variety of settings and project specifications.  The data collected from our efforts is used to provide the basis for environmental, geotechnical , long term monitoring, and geological research projects. Clients for these services have been from across academia, commercial sector firms, and government entities such as the EPA, Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Navy, and various state governments.

Athena’s sediment sampling capability is centered on Athena’s custom-designed and built vibracore sampling system.  This provides an extremely portable system that can be deployed from company owned research vessels and even hand carried to study sites where boat access is limited.  This flexible system gives Athena the ability to operate in a wide variety of aquatic environments that range from wetlands, ponds, rivers, harbors, lakes, open-ocean, and man-made water bodies.

Our equipment and staff capabilities have allowed us to collect vibracore samples throughout the U.S. East Coast, Gulf Coast and the Carribean from New Jersey to Texas in both offshore and inshore settings.  This includes projects ranging in scope from 300 offshore cores for a large scale, long term beach renourishment project to less than five cores for simple geotechnical or environmental evaluations of sediments.

We can also deploy additional equipment necessary to meet projects specifications.  These include tide gauges, ADCP, sediment cameras, biological dredges, surface grab samplers, customized sediment samplers, and many other instruments that can be used to fill in data needed for an accurate assessment of the study site.
Please see our project summary page for representative projects completed using our innovative system.
