Technologies, Inc. has designed an innovative method for the installation
of shallow monitoring wells in conventionally inaccessible areas such as
wetlands or shallow water table areas. This method is called VibraWell.
Through past experience, ideal locations for monitoring wells often are
compromised due to either physical, technical, or cost restrictions. The
proposed methodology for shallow monitoring well installation accomplishes
these goals, allows for proper well placement, and is cost effective. The installation of a VibraWell involves the sinking of a well casing using the vibracore machine followed by hand augering and standard 2 or 4 inch monitoring well construction. Once installed, the monitoring well is then developed using either hand held pumps or bailers and finished with flush mounted or riser pipe metal covers with cement pads. All drilling is conducted by state registered well drillers. The strong points of this method of monitoring well construction are the minimal damage to a wetland environment during installation and the portable nature of all equipment. Athena has installed
VibraWells for Westinghouse Savannah River Corporation, South Carolina
Electric & Gas, and Wachovia Bank of North Carolina. |
