Athena Technologies, Inc. provides a wide array of aquatic vibracore sediment sampling alternatives including open ocean, coastal environments, lakes, swamps, bays, and wetlands. For the last decade, Athena has become known for custom designing aquatic vibracore sampling systems for geotechnical and environmental sampling. The sampling protocols used by Athena are in accordance with those listed in the technical references in this brochure and the needs of the client. The collection of sediment and water column samples for analysis of potential pollutants and physical parameters is the basis of our sediment sampling program. These studies are typically conducted for the purpose of acquiring dredge and disposal permits, building permits, measuring baseline contaminant levels, beach restorarion, and research on the stratigraphy of modern clastic depostional environments.

Athena's research vessels

Lady Athena

Lady Athena is a 46’ foot long twin hulled research vessel designed for vibracore sampling, research support, and also can be outfitted to carry passengers on our Modern Clastic Depositional Environments field seminars. She is equipped with a full suite of marine electronics including Differential GPS, fathometer, and marine radios as well as a comprehensive set of safety equipment. Lady Athena is U.S. Coast Guard certified and fully equipped to handle most offshore and harbor vibracore sampling projects.

Artemis

Artemis is a 30’, trailerable research vessel capable of being transported anywhere in the Southeast, Atlantic Coast or Gulf Coast within 2 days. Artemis is designed and equipped similarly to Lady Athena and has the same basic capabilities. The added flexibility of being trailerable allows for quicker and less expensive mobilization to more distant study areas.

Artemis has been used in successfully completing projects throughout Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, and North Carolina.

Other Support & Sampling Craft

Athena maintains several other vessels used to collect and support vibracore sampling operations. This includes our portable raft system that is ideal for collecting samples in lakes, ponds, rivers, and impoundments. This system is can be assembled at the study site and can be launched in areas where boat ramp access is limited. It has been used for sampling projects in New Jersey, Georgia, South Carolina, and Alabama.

Our other vessels are used to provide support when needed and can also be used to ferry terrestrial sampling crews to out of the way wetlands study sites.
