Athena Technologies, Inc. and Dr. Sexton have been involved in the geologic training of scientists in both the ground water and petroleum industries as well as academic institutions for the past 20 years. Every year, Athena and its co-sponsors offer week long field seminars in Modern Terrigenous Clastic Depositional Environments. This course is designed to instruct the geoscientist in the sedimentological character of modern depositional environments.

Dr. Sexton has lectured in several graduate courses at the University of South Carolina. He has conducted field seminars for the College of Charleston, the AAPG, the Society of Economic Paleontologists and Mineralogists (SEPM), the Chapman Conference, Coastal Zone 1989, Tidalites '96 International Conference, the Geological Society of America (GSA), and the 53rd meeting of the Carolina Geological Society. He has taught coastal geology at the Nigerian Institute of Oceanography and Marine Research in Lagos, Nigeria and oil spill response in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.
