A vibracore device uses a vibration source to sink a sample barrel into unconsolidated, water-saturated sediments. The vibrations cause disturbance in the sediment that is in contact with the sample barrel to facilitate penetration. The disturbane is minimal and sedimentary structures are preserved in the sample.

Athena Technologies, Inc. has custom designed a several lightweight, portable vibracore system that are easily deployed aboard any of our research vessels or in terrestrial environments. The flexibility of the Athena system allows cores to be collected anywhere there is sediment that is water saturated or has a shallow water table both onshore (marshes, swamps, wetlands, shoals, etc.) or offshore (lakes, rivers, harbors, ponds, open ocean).

These samples are suitable for both environmental and geotechnical projects such as beach restoration, construction evaluation, pollution localization, pre-dredge studies, stratigraphic research, and others.

Athena's staff has experience vibracoring in all environments dating back to the mid-1970's. This experience is invaluable in providing high quality data collection using the vibracore system.
